Cheryl Hughes, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), is responsible for all HR functions within Toyota’s engineering, manufacturing, and sales operations in North America, including talent acquisition, talent development, team member relations, strategy & analytics, and total rewards. Cheryl was recently a member of the five-member Planning Management Office (PMO) responsible for the consolidation of Toyota’s U.S. affiliate operations into One Toyota and the relocation to the organization’s new headquarters in Plano, Texas. As a PMO member, she was responsible for leading the reorganization of the company’s key functional areas, helping to establish the new One Toyota culture, and overseeing the creation of the synthesized One Toyota Total Rewards package. Cheryl now serves as Executive Advisor for the PMO and Corporate Secretary for TMNA.

In Cheryl’s prior role, she managed the compensation, benefits and HR-IS programs for Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), ensuring those programs supported and aligned with the organization’s business strategy. She also was responsible for benefits programs at Toyota Financial Services (TFS), Toyota Racing Development (TRD), and Calty Design Research, as well as TMS and TFS executive compensation and benefits programs. Cheryl was also responsible for the development and implementation of workforce management tools and strategic planning for workforce issues.

Prior to joining TMS in August 2000, Cheryl served as director of compensation and benefits at Providence Health Systems. She also held the positions of director of compensation at Apria Healthcare, and national compensation and benefits manager for Hyundai Motor America.

Cheryl holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minnesota.
