Mary Jane Garza, currently serves as one of three Navy School Liaison Officer at NAS-Corpus Christi. She is a native of Corpus Christi and has lived in fifteen cities within the United States as well as internationally.

She had the pleasure of being a school teacher, counselor, assistant superintendent, and school superintendent. She served as a University professor at the following Universities: Texas Wesleyan, University of Texas-Pan American and Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi.

She was a Kellogg Fellow assigned to the Department of Education and served as an advisor to the Housing Urban Development Empowerment Zone Council in Washington D.C. She worked as a National Reading Consultant and co-authored several reading teacher’s guides and curriculum guides.

She has published educational articles and received the Literacy award from Texas A & M University- Corpus Christi.

She has received numerous national, state, and local awards. She is actively involved in national, state and local organizations. She is past State President of the Texas Association of Bilingual Education, Past State President of the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas, Past President of the American Red Cross- Coastal Bend, Past President of Citizens for Educational Excellence, Past President of the Instituto Cultural Hispanico de Corpus Christi de Corpus Christi, Executive Board Member of Art Museum of South Texas, South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, and member of numerous local organizations. She is active in her church and has been a member of the Corpus Christi Bishop’s Guild for the past nine years and in 2014, was nominated and approved by the Corpus Christi Diocese to Pope Francis to join the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.

Last year in the Bend Magazine was featured as one of the most Beautiful Women in the Coastal Bend- Inside and Out. She was featured during Hispanic Heritage month by Citgo as one of the most Active Hispanic Community Leaders in the Coastal Bend during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Mary Jane Garza lives by two mottos: “I am here on Earth to be of service to others”, and by William Ernest Henley last two lines from the poem “Invictus “I am the master of my Fate and I am the captain of my soul.”
