Sal served on active duty in the Air Force (AF) for 26 years, including 20+ years in Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS). He retired in 2004 as a Chief Master Sergeant and has been awarded the AF Meritorious Medal five times.
He enlisted in the AF in 1978 as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. In 1984 he was selected for recruiting duty and worked was assigned to Flushing, NY. In 1988, he was assigned to the MEPS in Buffalo, NY and from 1991-1993, Sal was assigned as a Health Professions Recruiter in Williamsville, NY. Notable achievements: “Operation Blue Suit” winner as one of Top 10 AF Recruiters (out of 1500+).
From 1993-1995, he worked as a Recruiting Supervisor in Fayetteville, NC. During this time, Sal was selected to testify before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on behalf of AFRS and was the AFRS nominee for “12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year.” In 1995, he assigned to Robins AFB, GA as a Training Supervisor. From 1998-2001, he served as a Recruiting Squadron Superintendent in Arlington, TX (1 of 28 in the US). His final assignment came in 2001, as the Superintendent, AF Officer Accessions, HQ AFRS, Randolph AFB, managing 3K Health Professions and OTS accessions per year.
From 2004-2012, Sal worked as a Senior Consultant at a medical placement firm, recruiting RN’s for hospital systems throughout the US. In 2005 he was selected as the SA Association of Personnel Consultants (SAAPC) "2006 Rookie of the Year” and in 2007, he was awarded 2 nd Place, SAAPC “Medical/Technical” category (out 200+).
Sal has worked at Valero since 2013 and currently supervises the Talent Acquisition process for Valero Headquarters. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Education from Wayland Baptist University.
