Pauline A. Filipek MD is a Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Child & Adolescent neurology ay McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston. She serves as Director of the LoneStar Leadership Education in Autism and other Neurodevelopmental Disabilities [LEND] Program [see www.aucd.org/template/page.cfm?id=473]. Her clinical and research passions have been focused for many years on identifying the earliest signs of autism spectrum disorders [ASDs], and on initiating the earliest intensive interventions. She lectures extensively on these topics to students, trainees and professionals in all related disciplines. She received her MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine followed by pediatric/chief residency at University of Massachusetts, and child neurology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/ Harvard Medical School. She continued on Harvard faculty until her recruitment to UC Irvine in 1994, where she remained until her recruitment to UTHealth in 2009. She chaired the American Academy of Neurology/ Child Neurology Society Committee of 11 professional and 4 family organizations to create Practice Parameters for Screening and Diagnosis of Autism, the first such published guidelines. She also served on the National Research Council Committee that authored Educational Interventions for Children with Autism. Dr. Filipek also directs the Act Early Texas! Autism Commission, with representative from academic autism programs, Texas state program for autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities [IDD].
