Susan Hernandez, MBA, BSN, RN currently serves as the Health System Chief Nurse Executive for UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she oversees the nursing practice for the University Hospitals and all ambulatory clinics Ms. Hernandez joined UT Southwestern in June 2014, following a 20-year career at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which included serving as the Chief Nursing Officer at Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital.
She is known and admired for her intellect, energy, and thoughtfulness in working with her peers and colleagues. At UT Southwestern, she led the transition of nursing from St. Paul University Hospital to Clements University Hospital; she has expanded the nursing education program to enhance the quality of care across all disciplines; and she led an important external review of our nursing practice by a panel of acclaimed national experts to lead us to Magnet designation. Ms. Hernandez is passionate about the wellbeing of not only our patients, but also our staff.
She is committed to developing future leaders and leading them to the next step in a long career of authentic leadership.
Susan is a native of Nashville, TN she enjoys music and being outdoors and loves to sing. She is married to Edward (native Texan) and they have a puppy named Ellie. Trust, honesty and being your genuine self are super important to me!
