GASPER MIR, III, is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Luby’s Inc., a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Luby’s is headquartered in Houston, Texas and operates almost 200 restaurants and over 50 franchises all over the country and certain international locations under the brands of Luby’s, Fuddruckers and Cheeseburger in Paradise. In addition, he serves as Chairman of the Luby’s Executive Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and a member of the Finance and Audit Committee.
Prior to his retirement in 2015, Mr. Mir was a founding principal of MFR Group, Inc. a professional services firm which he started in 1988. As a CPA, Mr. Mir had more than 43 years of experience in accounting, finance, and audit from his distinguished tenure of 18 years at the international accounting firm KPMG and 25 years at MFR P.C., which was one of the largest Hispanic owned CPA firms in the country.
Additionally, Mr. Mir has experience in public relations, government, education, health care and community outreach from his five years as Executive General Manager of Strategic Partnerships for the Houston Independent School District and his board service on several community based organizations such as the local Sam Houston Boy Scouts Council, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans and the Greater Houston Community Foundation, the Greater Houston Partnership, and the Houston Technology Center. In addition he served on the National Council of the Small Business Administration. He was past chair of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the American Assn. of Hispanic CPA’s (now Assn. of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting), the Houston Hispanic Forum and the American Leadership Forum – Houston Chapter. Gasper was an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts and later, as an adult volunteer, received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award from the local Sam Houston Council for exceptional character who provided distinguished service to the council. Among several other awards he has received from local charitable organizations, he is a past recipient of the American Leadership Forum’s Joe Jaworski Leadership Award, which is given each year to someone who exemplifies the Forum’s mission of joining and strengthening diverse leaders to better serve the public good, the Houston Hispanic Chamber Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year, and was the recipient of the Center for Houston’s Future 2015 IMPACT Award in recognition of his transformative leadership having a meaningful and beneficial impact on the people of the greater Houston Region.
