The Texas Diversity Council in partnership with Rice University is proud to announce our 9th Annual Texas Diversity Council Summer Youth Program. This week long program will engage eighty students from local middle and high schools from June 10-14, 2019 on the Rice University Campus.
Most of these gifted students come from lower income households, and with a little guidance, have the potential to be the first in their families to attend college. The program is designed to provide lessons and activities which will equip these students for a successful transition into college and through to graduation. Included are writing workshops, SAT/ACT practice exams, presentations on financial aid and the admissions process, leadership activities, art exhibits, and much more.
Each year the program continues to grow and this will be no different. We are always in need of volunteers to assist with both logistics and as presenters for our various panels and lessons. Please send any questions about how you can get involved with the program to Rachel Robledo. This is a tremendous program, and truly a great way to give back to the Houston community.
Thank you for your consideration and have a great day.
Texas Diversity Council
I would like to personally welcome you to the Texas Diversity Council Summer Youth Program website. We at the Texas Diversity Council recognize that our youth are our future, and in order for our country to continue to be productive and excel on the global stage, we must make an investment in their education. In our society today, youth, especially minorities, experience numerous challenges and barriers in both middle and high school. As a result, few successfully make the transition to college.
Through the Texas Diversity Youth Program, we aim to provide diversity and inclusion education, resources, tools and forums to middle and high school students to provide them with support they require to succeed in their secondary education. We encourage you to get involved, and help us in putting our Youth FIRST!

Thank you for your interest in learning about event sponsorship! We need all the help we can get. We do not charge any of the students or schools associated for their participation in this program, and budget is always a concern. Nearly without exception, this is the only extracurricular educational program these students are involved in, and without help from our sponsors, we couldn’t make that happen. We strive to being the same students back year after year in order to see them through to college, and our goal is to raise enough in donations to be able to provide scholarships to those students completing all 4 years of the program.
Below you will find the various suggested sponsorship levels and the benefits associated with them. Feel free to contact Laura Alvarado at [email protected] with any questions or to donate at a different amount.
To be determined
We are currently seeking committed volunteers and chaperones to help with the event logistics, and also as presenters for the program. Most of the logistic support would be required for the morning portions of each day. If you are interested in helping out with the program, please contact Rachel Robledo at [email protected] with the times you are available as well as your area of interest (chaperoning, general support, speaking opportunity, etc.) Also please keep in mind the following requirements and considerations:
