Margaret currently works as a consultant assisting organizations in increasing inter-organization and service user inclusion across race, gender, and sexual orientation. Margaret is passionate about work that is in alignment with her value system, most especially as it relates to addressing inequality through inclusion and equity. Margaret’s experience includes nearly two years of equity work and more than five years spent studying inequality. In this capacity, Margaret developed diversity, inclusion and equity curriculum and training courses aimed at effecting long-term systems change. Margaret is also a trained State of Texas facilitator of equity and inclusion workshops and has extensive experience administering trainings to Texas Department of State Health Services employees, from executive level to frontline staff.

Margaret previously served as Program Development Coordinator of Tony’s Place, a drop-in center for youth and young people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurities, with an emphasis on providing a safe and inclusive space for those within the LGBT community. Margaret also worked as lead intern with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission – Center for the Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities in Houston. Margaret provided consultation support, technical assistance, and training to state departments and stakeholders. Margaret facilitated workshops designed to take a systems approach to expand equity and inclusion. Margaret has experience in delivering direct services with the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, within the Harris County Jail – Adult Forensic Unit.

Margaret holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work (2016), with a Health and Behavioral Health specialization. She received the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Award, recognized as “Being the Change.” Margaret is a Clinton Global Initiative – University member.

Margaret currently serves a mentor in the Third Ward Houston, Texas with the University of Houston Law Center Juvenile and Capital Advocacy Project. She also serves as a member of the Houston Disproportionality Advisory Committee and as a member of the Houston Group Psychotherapy Association’s special interest group on diversity.
