Lorraine Schroeder is the first director of the LGBTQ Resource Center at the University of Houston which opened in May 2010. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

As the director of the LGBTQ Resource Center, Schroeder provides educational opportunities to various departments about the LGBTQ community through programs such as the Cougar Ally Training and Speaker’s Bureau Panels. She also provides a safe space in the Center for students to relax, feel comfortable, and be themselves, as well as approach her with personal problems. She is an ear for students going through hard times, and connects them to peers or other resources available on campus to aid them in overcoming obstacles.

Schroeder has applied for and received grants from The Diana Foundation, The Hollyfield Foundation, The LTR Lewis Cloverdale Foundation, and Bunnies on the Bayou. She received the Val DuMontier New Professional Award from ACPA College Student Educators International in 2013, and has received from the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services “The Ambassador Award” and the “Outstanding Professional Award of Excellence.” She aspires to use her professional position to continue to make differences in students’ lives.
